Algol Chemicals earns EcoVadis Gold-level in recognition of sustainability excellence

In January 2025, EcoVadis, the world's largest provider of business sustainability ratings, once again awarded Algol Chemicals a Gold rating for its sustainability management system. In 2024, the company had dropped temporarily to the Silver level.

Algol Chemicals has made improvements across all themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. In addition, the company has focused on enhancing management indicators, including policies, certifications and reporting.

Algol Chemicals is committed to creating a healthy and well-functioning work community, ensuring the sustainable use of energy and resources, and continuously improving the quality of our operations.

“The guidelines received in the EcoVadis assessments have been a valuable tool for our continuous improvement work. With EcoVadis, we have been able to monitor our sustainability efforts relative to other companies and identify areas for improvement,” says Ida-Kaisa Kemppi, Sustainability & HSEQ Director at Algol Chemicals.

“Algol Chemicals and the Algol Group have worked to enhance our policies and improve the visualisation of KPI statistics, which has positively contributed to our score. We are pleased with the progress made in our focus areas and the improvements in management indicators that have been achieved through the collaboration of multiple teams. Our goal is to continue this work by leveraging the collective strength of the entire organisation,” Kemppi adds.

Future focus areas

Algol Chemicals will be focusing on improving company policies by setting more quantitative targets to drive accountability and progress.

Enhancing reporting is another priority. The goal is to align the company’s sustainability report fully with ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) requirements and have it verified by an accredited auditor, increasing transparency and credibility. Our 2024 sustainability report will be prepared for the first time in accordance with the frameworks and principles of the ESRS, and from 2025, we will officially transition to reporting in accordance with CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) requirements.

In the area of Ethics and Sustainable Procurement, the company is reinforcing its supplier approval process with structured on-site audits and agreements that include key sustainability requirements. “We are committed to strengthening our policies with clear, measurable targets and enhancing transparency through rigorous reporting and auditing. These steps will drive real progress in sustainability and ethical procurement,” Kemppi continues.

The Algol Group strives to support and develop its subsidiaries in a sustainable and profitable manner. Trading involves responsibility for customers, suppliers, employees and society as a whole. We believe that international trade promotes global understanding, peaceful coexistence and stability.

EcoVadis is the world's largest provider of sustainability ratings for companies. Its assessment is built on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and the ISO 26000. The topics evaluated are Environment, Ethics, Labor & Human rights and Sustainable Procurement. Since Algol Chemicals joined EcoVadis they have benefited from the recommendations in the development of sustainability in the supply chain.
