Algol Chemicals secures Silver EcoVadis rating for 2026 with improved sustainable procurement score

News 5.5.2026

Algol Chemicals has been awarded the EcoVadis Silver medal

Algol Chemicals has been awarded the EcoVadis Silver Medal for 2026. While the company succeeded in increasing its total point score compared to the previous year, the result this time placed Algol Chemicals at the Silver level. This outcome reflects the highly competitive assessment environment and strong performance across industries. The increase in the total score was driven by a strategic overhaul of supply chain management, ethical governance and significant progress in decarbonising operations.

The standout achievement in this year’s evaluation is the higher score in the Sustainable Procurement theme achieved by Algol Chemicals. This milestone was achieved by maximising points in both Policy and Measures through several key initiatives:

  • Rigorous auditing: The introduction of a formal on-site audit process for suppliers
  • Expertise & training: Comprehensive training for buyers focusing on social and environmental issues within the supply chain
  • Supplier evaluation: The refinement of the supplier approval process to ensure high ethical and environmental standards
  • Quantitative targets: Presenting Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) targets for all proprietary products

Algol Chemicals also secured the maximum possible score in the Measures category across all themes. This reflects the company’s plans, implementations and reviews of measures/actions. One example is climate action, having recently achieved zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by transitioning to fossil-free energy and optimising logistics.

In the Ethics theme, the company improved across indicators for Endorsements, Measures and Certifications. This was due to both our Responsible Care commitment and our Incident Response Plan (IRP) for managing breaches of confidential information.

Algol Chemicals is committed to creating a healthy and well-functioning work community, ensuring the sustainable use of energy and resources, and continuously improving the quality of its operations.

“The guidelines received in the EcoVadis assessments have been a valuable tool for our continuous improvement work. With EcoVadis, we have been able to monitor our sustainability efforts relative to other companies and identify areas for improvement,” says Ida-Kaisa Kemppi, Sustainability & HSEQ Director at Algol Chemicals.

Future focus areas

While the Silver rating reflects substantial progress, Algol Chemicals has already identified the path toward further strengthening its management systems. The primary focus for the next period is to elevate Policy scores in Environment, Labor & Human Rights and Ethics.

Key priorities:

  • ESRS framework: Algol Chemicals will continue to align its sustainability work with the structure and principles of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Algol Chemicals believes that ESRS provides the most consistent and comprehensive framework for supporting the sustainability work of its stakeholders.
  • Policy strengthening: Algol Chemicals will continue to strengthen company policies by setting more quantitative targets to drive accountability and progress across all business units.
  • Transparency: Algol Chemicals will continue to enhance reporting and auditing to ensure that sustainability and ethical procurement remain at the core of its operations.
EcoVadis is the world's largest provider of sustainability ratings for companies. Its assessment is built on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and ISO 26000. The topics evaluated are Environment, Ethics, Labor & Human rights, and Sustainable Procurement. Since Algol Chemicals joined EcoVadis, the company has benefited from the recommendations for developing sustainability in the supply chain.
