Algol and Evonik celebrate 100 years of partnership

In 2025, Algol and Evonik will celebrate a major milestone – 100 years of partnership. The cooperation began in 1925 with the representation of preparations for the ceramic industry in Finland and has, over the decades, expanded to include a wide range of chemical products and industrial solutions.

This partnership is built on the long and innovative histories of both companies. Algol was founded by Albert Goldbeck-Löwe, who established a trade agency in Helsinki in 1894. The origins of what would become Evonik trace back to the Th. Goldschmidt Chemical Factory, founded in Berlin in 1847, which moved to its current location in Essen in 1890.

The cooperation was formalised in 1925, and the Arabia ceramics factory in Helsinki became the first customer for the products of today’s Evonik represented by Algol. Over the decades, the scope of the representation has grown to include pigments, chemicals, metal joining technologies, industrial furnaces, and specialty raw materials. The partnership has endured through the Second World War, mergers, and corporate transformations – all the way to the present day.

Today, Algol’s subsidiary Algol Chemicals represents Evonik in eight countries, including Finland, Scandinavia, the Baltics and Ukraine, serving over 400 customers in areas such as coating additives, silica, and animal nutrition products.
