Algol Chemicals invests in greener logistics at its Turku site
Algol Chemicals has introduced renewable fuel oil for heating and forklift trucks at its Turku site. The change, implemented at the end of last year, marks a move towards more environmentally friendly operations.
The renewable fuel oil is made entirely from waste and residual raw materials. As a result, it offers significant potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels. When calculated over the entire life cycle of the fuel, the use of renewable fuel oil can reduce the carbon footprint by up to 90% on average compared to fossil diesel.
Renewable fuel oil offers many advantages both as a heating fuel and as a motor fuel. Its use in heating significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which is in line with Algol Chemicals’ sustainability objectives. As a fuel, it enables cleaner operation of forklift trucks, which can reduce engine load and exhaust emissions. Renewable fuel oil also does not contain conventional biodiesel.
Algol Chemicals’ decision to switch to renewable fuel oil is in line with the company's desire to commit to sustainability and reduce emissions from its own operations. Minimising the environmental impact of logistics and warehousing operations is increasingly important and this change is a concrete step in that direction.
