A Reliable Partner for Industrial Enterprise

  • 1894: The young German businessman Albert Goldbeck-Löwe founds a business in Helsinki. The agency and import of chemicals, etc. commence in a room on Liisankatu.
  • 1897: Office facilities are found on Unioninkatu. The company imports tarred rope, hemp, bricks, metal products, sodium carbonate and other chemicals etc. from all over the world for the needs of the evolving Finnish industries.
  • 1913: Importation of fuel, transport services and warehouse operations are started.
  • 1916: The company is named ALGOL. Activities interrupted by the war are quickly re-established.
  • 1934 and 1936: The rights for trading natural medicinal products and pharmaceutical products are acquired.
  • 1939: Warehouses are built in Jätkäsaari in order to ensure the secure handling and storage of goods. The laboratory department is founded.
  • 1944: After the difficult wars the shortage of foreign products is compensated by domestic production at first, until the importation of steel from England is re-established.
  • 1955: Algol's first own facilities are completed in Eteläranta, Helsinki. The emphasis of activities is directed on wholesales.
  • 1963: Land is acquired from Kilo in Espoo. Activities are gradually concentrated on this venue. The head office is completed in 1988.
  • 1970s: Start-up of own industrial production.
  • 1991: Internalisation commences, first Estonia, then Latvia and Lithuania and further on to Russia in 1996, Scandinavia in 2000 and The Ukraine in 2006
  • 1993: The international quality grading of all activities of the company is completed.
  • 2005: The group of companies is divided into three strong branches of activities: Algol Chemicals, Algol Technics and Algol Pharma.
  • 2008: Algol Chemicals is an extensive supplier for industries. It offers a comprehensive product range as well as product-related services and expertise to its customers.
  • 2010: Algol Chemicals commence business in Minsk, Belarus.
